UOF Warsaw Meeting - Francesca Campana
On the 13th and 14th June 2019 Warsaw hosted the third Consortium meeting of the “Universities of the Future”, an Erasmus+ project, that bring together businesses, universities, public authorities and students to address the existing gap in the current offer in Higher Education and co-create innovative and multidisciplinary solutions adjusted to the current and upcoming challenges of a digital era. (See UOF launch and Platoniq's Train the Trainers course for previous stages of the project).

The project is in the middle of its journey. In this first part, Platoniq was strongly engaged in the definition of the methodological framework to support a series of 33 events, that the partners across Portugal, Finland and Poland are organising with different stakeholders with the goal of drawing new ways for universities, industries and civil society to move together towards a conscious shift to Industry 4.0.

THE UOF FOUR TYPES OF EVENTS IN A NUTSHELL

The main objective of the events is to bring the network from the exploration of broad issues and inspiring stories within the field of Industry 4.0 (Igniting Events), to narrow down to better understand its challenges (Blueprint Enabling Events), to the creation of  innovative, relevant and high quality prototypes for the educational assets needed to support the transition towards Education 4.0.(Co-creation events), to the evaluation and readjustment of the strategy that was first defined - in the blueprint enabling events - and try to see how the strategy is updated in order to ensure its relevance (Forward Looking Events).

While Igniting events inspire and engage new participants and stakeholders into the project, Blueprint enabling events foster deliberation and identify core Education 4.0 challenges that will inform the co-creation process.

Blueprint co-creation events are hands-on workshops to develop projects and prototypes that respond to the identified key challenges, while Forward-looking events evaluate the work done, drawing lessons to ensure the sustainability of the project and broadening the vision of the potential of the network and of Education 4.0.

Let’s enter in the details!

Igniting events
Their goal is to raise motivation, interest, awareness and to acknowledge that businesses, universities, public authorities and students are first moving towards a change in the model and achieve a better position in Industry 4.0.

The core underlying question shall be: “Do you want to join and be a first mover? If you do we will guide you through different stages of participation throughout the rest of types of events.” The final learners are made aware that they are invited to join the process and to participate in the production of these results and educational assets, since in the different types of events they have the chance to participate in the co-creation and piloting process.

Blueprint enabling events
Their main objectives are sharing perspectives, experiences and practices among the actors of the nodes and boost cooperation between and within businesses, universities, public authorities and students. Furthermore, they create a space for the discussion of relevant topics related to industry/education 4.0, such as requirements and progresses towards enhanced alignment between curricula and market needs; development of t-shaped skills; competencies valorised by the labour market; integration of technologies in learning methodologies; possible actions to accelerate digital innovation/transformation in universities and companies.

Finally they generate useful inputs for the educational assets of the project.

Blueprint co-creation events
These types of events involve students engaged in the piloting of the educational assets.

The goals of the blueprint co-creation events are to strengthen university-business cooperation through work-based sessions, and to encourage the participation of stakeholders in the Virtual Learning and Teaching Factory.

Participants have the opportunity to solve together complex problems, hands-on.

Forward looking events
The main idea of these types of events is to ensure sustainability, to use the strategy that was first defined - in the blueprint enabling events - and try to see how the strategy is updated in order to ensure its relevance and a long term vision. They will identify the framework conditions  for industry and education 4.0.

They involve businesses, universities, public authorities and students.

The four types of events preview in the projects and their main characteristics

Platoniq developed tools and methods for the implementation of successful events, where co-creation is promoted and participatory processes are encouraged. By highlighting the importance of the collaborative mindset, skills and tools Platoniq aims at supporting innovators into hold the space of collective intelligence.

NEXT STEPS

The first set of events is completed (Igniting events and Blueprint Enabling Events) and Platoniq will support the partners in fine-tuning and tailoring the methodologies for the second set of events.

The mains goals of the second stage of the project will be strengthening the ethics of collaboration, the active participation and the collective thinking of the events in the educative assets in order to build an Education 4.0 able to give great opportunities for the industry and business, but also for people and the planet.
