La Guixeta is a digital platform dedicated to audiovisual and cultural content in Catalan. It is a new leading platform from which to build new ethical relationships around access and exchange, where content producers and creators will find solutions to their needs in the areas of publication, exchange, distribution, communication, funding, and community building. Furthermore, it is a space where they can express their opinions on current social issues, in direct contact with the communities affected.

La Guixeta combines multimedia playback capabilities with a techno-ethical online streaming service based on Peertube, along with crowdfunding tools and strategies through Goteo.org. It offers a new way of understanding both the creation and production of content and the access to and consumption of audiovisual and cultural material through the social and solidarity economy and mutual support.

La Guixeta operates in a horizontal and democratic manner, fostering fair relationships between creation and consumption that uphold the dignity of cultural workers without intermediaries, placing community and consumer cooperatives at the center.

A fair and transparent funding model

Unlike extractivist platforms, La Guixeta operates on a nonprofit funding model, in which creators and producers receive 82% of the revenue generated by their content. The remaining 18% is reinvested in the platform’s maintenance and distributed as follows:

1. 6% goes to the monetization service, which covers the platform’s operating expenses, bank fees for payments to creators, and credit card processing fees.

   6% goes to Som Audiovisual SCCL, a nonprofit service cooperative, in exchange for maintaining the La Guixeta platform and managing the audiovisual repository.

   6% goes to the La Guixeta Social Fund, allocated for calls for proposals, support for audiovisual creation, and other mutual aid projects.

This model ensures that most of the revenue generated goes directly to creators, which fosters a more equitable and sustainable cultural ecosystem.
